A good reminder...

There's nothing like a good ole' satyrical reminder of a harsh reality. I'm the biggest culprit, that's for sure. Let's be careful out there.

Dear Mr. President

On the way to work this morning I was awed by what I heard on a local "top 40" station. I heard, for the first time, the song Dear Mr. President by Pink feat. the Indigo Girls which is an open letter to President George W. Bush. I was struck by the autheticity and the care of the lyrics. I feel the song is bold, but humble, unapologetic, but transparent. Kudos to Pink for the clarity, vision, and guts to produce such a song. And double kudos to Kiss 108, Boston's top 40 radio station for airing such a meaningful and seemlingly "un-entertaining" song. I'm encouraged to say the least.

You may not agree with all the lyrics, but I commend Pink for starting a great conversation and treating it so delicately. (The song does bring up some very interesting topics for Christians to think about and makes me think about my Christian response and proactivity to the world around me.)

Watch the video and listen to the song here.

The South Will Rise Again...

As you may know, combating racism is always in the forefront of my mind. Depending on what news you watch, you may have seen this or you may not have. That's part of the problem, I'm afraid. Nevertheless, please visit this site and watch the video. And if you are so inclined sign the petition. Racism is like a flood; it's threat must be proactively eliminated in order to be effective. The levees of racial justice must be strongly reinforced in order to level the playing field. Racism like a flood cannot be dealt with after it has hit, trying to gather water and contain it.

This is not meant to be propaganda. I don't mean to get up on a soap box. I don't want to get caught up in the banter of pointless arguments. My intention is to bring to the surface a meaningful conversation about Justice, Honor, and Racial Harmony.
